| Character
Education wCEC supports character education by providing curriculums in local schools. Manners of the Heart and Building Strong Character for a Lifetime provide an opportunity for students to develop self-respect and respect for others - two principles all children need to learn to be successful in life. The programs are distributed by Character@Heart, a non-profit organization in Montgomery. Scholarship Award wCEC awards a $1,000 scholarship each year to a graduating senior who is a dependent of a CEC member. High school seniors can pick up an application from their guidance counselor. Scholarships are awarded through the Electric Cooperative Foundation in Montgomery, Ala. The Foundation reviews all applications and determines who the recipient will be based on academics, volunteer work, and school involvement. |
Electrical
Safety Demonstrations wCEC employees regularly conduct electrical safety demonstrations in area schools upon request. Students quickly learn how to play it safe around electricity. Wiring Classes wCEC employees also conduct basic wiring classes in local schools for ninth grade vocational students. |
A
Cooperative
Environment wA Cooperative Environment is a hands-on program designed to enhance classroom education about native reptiles and amphibians. It teaches students about the differences between reptiles and amphibians and their niche in Alabama’s and northwest Florida’s environments. The role of the student, school and electric cooperative as environmental stewards is discussed. CEC is pleased to provide the Cooperative Environment program in local schools upon request. |
