Renewable Energy

CEC and its wholesale power provider, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, are actively pursuing means of preserving the environment while providing reliable, affordable energy.

Through a partnership between CEC, Waste Management and PowerSouth, methane gas from Springhill Regional Landfill near Campbellton, Fla., is extracted and burned to generate 4.8 megawatts of green energy, which is then placed on the transmission grid and made available for all electric cooperatives in the PowerSouth system.

The new Green Power Choice program provides a cleaner option for electric generation. It also gives CEC members the option of purchasing blocks of power generated from a renewable resource – methane gas from landfills.

If you would like more information on the Green Power program, please e-mail CEC by clicking here.
