Through a partnership between CEC,
Waste Management and Alabama Electric Cooperative, methane gas from
Springhill Regional Landfill near Campbellton, Fla., is extracted and
burned to generate 4.8 megawatts of green energy, which is then placed on
the transmission grid and made available for all electric cooperatives in
the AEC system. The new Green Power Choice program
provides a cleaner option for electricity generation. It also gives CEC
members the option of purchasing blocks of power generated from a
renewable resource – methane gas from landfills. |
