A Rare Opportunity 
The Rural Electric Youth Tour provides participating students with an exciting opportunity to tour historical places, see government in action and learn about electric cooperatives while making new friends from across the state and nation. The Youth Tour is open to all high school juniors in the CEC service area and it is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.  

The Montgomery Youth Tour
wThe Montgomery Youth Tour is hosted by the Alabama Rural Electric Association. It includes a three-day trip to Montgomery, Ala., where participants tour the state Capitol, meet legislators at the State House, and hear from co-op representatives. 

wCovington Electric Co-op sponsors 12 students each year to attend the Montgomery Youth Tour. Two students are selected to participate from each of the six high schools in CEC's service area by competing through an essay competition. 

wThe Montgomery Youth Tour takes place each spring. Dates vary year to year.
The Washington Youth Tour
wThe Washington Youth Tour is hosted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. This trip brings hundreds of high school juniors to Washington, D.C. each year for an exciting week of educational activities, tours and fun. Students tour places like the U.S. Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Vernon, and the Smithsonian just to name a few. 

wCovington Electric Co-op sponsors two students for the all expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Montgomery Youth Tour essay winners compete through an interview competition for the two slots to Washington. 

wThe Washington Youth Tour takes place in June each year.
How to Apply
wIn the fall, a CEC representative will make Youth Tour presentations to high school juniors at each of the six high schools in the CEC service area which include; Straughn, Brantley, Pleasant Home, Red Level, Kinston and Samson. 

wStudents who wish to participate should see their guidance counselor for rules and requirements. Essays and applications are due to their guidance counselor by a given date.
